WHAT IS COSCLAY?

Cosclay is a hybrid plastic/rubber polymer clay that remains strong and flexible after curing. Unlike other polymer clays, Cosclay's unique flexibility confers a durable quality and strength that is suitable for infinite applications. This includes stop-motion characters, articulated figures, miniatures, dioramas, One of a Kind (OOAK) sculptures and much more! Cosclay allows the creation of very fine and delicate pieces without fear of breaking after curing, especially during transit. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination. PRODUCT FEATURES

High Strength During the sculpting process, Cosclay has a degree of self-supporting strength that holds it in place without falling or sinking under its own weight. Even without internal support, many creations at Cosclay tend to hold their shape pretty well.

Warping and Cracking ResistanceThe same properties that contribute to the High Strength of the previous point, also prevent Cosclay from eating or cracking during baking.

No Shrinkage and No Expansion – Cosclay has been formulated to be resistant to shrinkage and expansion. Cosclay is a 100% solid with minimal volatility. That means there is no loss or gain of dough during baking. What goes into the oven is what comes out.

High Level of Detail and TextureSome polymer clays offer flat levels of detail and texture after baking. Cosclay has been formulated to block every painstaking detail that the artist puts into the piece.

High Flexibility and Strong Curing One of the most precious features of Cosclay is its flexibility. This formula has been designed to give incredible flexibility and strength to the cured pieces. These characteristics give confidence to the artist, thus knowing that delicate and intricate parts will not break or damage during handling or transportation, especially when traveling great distances.

Long Shelf Life In its original format, Cosclay has no expiration date. As long as it stays away from excessive heat, Cosclay can last for many years and can be worked and baked at any time. As an additional safety measure, we recommend keeping Cosclay wrapped in a clean container to avoid contamination by dust or debris.

Is it Plastic or Rubber (Rubber)? Well, the answer is that Cosclay is a bit of both, depending on the thickness of the piece to be cured. The thinner the baked piece, the more flexible and rubber-like it will be. On the contrary, the thicker the piece, the less flexible and more similar to plastic.cosclay gif 2

Ease of Modeling and Mixing – Cosclay has been designed to have a smooth texture that blends and adheres to itself as well as other surfaces. For additional softness, it is recommended to apply alcohol with a fine brush to mix sharp edges and refine the surface. Cosclay can be worked with the hand, metal modeling tools or rubber tip modeling brushes.

Can Be Baked Repeatedly and Added to Another Piece Formulated to withstand repeated baking cycles, Coscaly can be baked, added to another piece and re-baked numerous times without drying or cracking, as long as the baking temperature is right.

Excellent Memory In sections thin enough to make the most of flexibility, Cosclay remembers its curing shape when bent or twisted and will return to it at the end. This works especially well for things like fingers and fine, long details.

Non-Toxic Formula – Cosclay is NON-Toxic and made entirely from safe components. It does not contain products or ingredients of animal origin, nor has it been tested on animals, so it is Vegan-Friendly. Cosclay can be recycled by crushing cured parts and mixing them with fresh produce before baking, thus saving the product.

HOW TO USE

What is the ideal temperature for baking Cosclay?   It is important to cure at 135 ºC for at least 30 minutes by 6.5mm.de thickness. If Cosclay is cured at too low a temperature, it will have a weak cure and break when it bends instead of flexing and maintaining its shape. Because Cosclay is temperature sensitive, we do not recommend plastic dome-style halogen convection ovens, or small tabletop toaster ovens. We found that these types of ovens generate hot spots and uneven heating. While they may work for conventional polymer clays, they don't work well for Cosclay. The best type of oven that provides the most even heating is a conventional domestic oven, either electric or gas.

How thin can I make Cosclay? It can be made as thin or as thick as you want. The thinner the piece, the more rubbery it will heal and the thicker you make it, the more plastic-like it will be.

Can Cosclay be sanded or polished? Yes, it can, but due to its flexibility there is more resistance to the surface than a rigid part. Therefore, we recommend using a wet sanding technique to reduce surface drag. Some effort is needed, but Cosclay can be sanded and rectified with Dremel motorized tools and cut with various precision hand tools.cosclayswamp

Sometimes when baking Cosclay steam comes out, is it dangerous to breathe it? Steam is not considered dangerous, but it must be ventilated to a large extent. Cosclay is made from all non-toxic ingredients. If you experience excess steam, you're probably baking the clay at too high a temperature. Check your oven with a secondary thermometer to make sure it's baking at the right temperature. Make sure you don't burn the clay and keep it away from all heating elements. Cosclay is a professional medium and is not designed for use by children and should only be used under the supervision of an adult. Larger pieces will sometimes generate more steam because there is a greater mass of material to cure. To reduce costs and use less material, we recommend using aluminum armor wire over an aluminum foil core. We do not recommend using any type of colored plastic tape or masking tape over the aluminum foil, as the colors can transfer and bleed into the clay and ruin the coloration. This can be especially evident with lighter colored clays.

I realize that when I make limb-like parts on a wire armor, Cosclay doesn't seem to stick to the metal. When I fold my piece on the wire, I can feel the clay slide over the wire. How can I prevent this from happening? One of the best and easiest ways to prevent this is to wrap a thinner wire around the primary wire to give the cured clay a more uneven surface to hold it in place. Another method is to add a thin layer of epoxy clay over the sheet cover. Cosclay tends to adhere better to epoxy than to metal. A couple of drops of heat-resistant Cyan adhesive also work well.

Cosclay cracks at some points after baking. Why did this happen? There are a couple of possible reasons. First, you may have used a very thick section of clay and overheated. When Cosclay overheats, it generates a vapor that tries to escape from the clay body. The easiest way for the steam to be released is to quickly push out generating a crack to easily escape into the not fully cured clay. The second is because the piece is baked once and then put back in and baked again. When you do this, you are generating tension in the armor. Cosclay has memory, so when you bake it again, it softens and the areas that bend exert force in the new position and a crack will form where the new curve is presented. To avoid this problem, do not fold your piece until after the final baking.

Can Cosclay be painted? Yes. Cosclay can be painted with acrylics, pastels, polymeric paints and some urethanes.
