AXSON F40 Now Sika Biresin F40 is an incredibly strong and precise polyurethane resin. It is perfect for making rigid two-part molds for later cast silicone. It also works great as a backing material to a first coat of epoxy. It can be poured up to a maximum of 10cm. per coat or it can also be thickened with AT-2 Silica Gel for brush or brush application on vertical surfaces.
It seeps perfectly, filling all voids and is easy to make in large batches, which makes it very economical when making block molds. Fillers can be added to increase the volume, such as our Aluminum Powder, allowing the resin to continue to flow while loaded up to 100% by volume, making it very economical.
When used as a backing material for Epoxy resin coatings, it pays to create a mechanical bond between the two materials. A good trick is to use regular strands of fiberglass embedded in the epoxy layer to give the AXON F40 something to grab onto, as the two materials will not chemically bond. The big advantage of using F40 over an epoxy casting resin is that an epoxy resin will generally have a very slow cure in large blocks, thus saving time and not losing strength.
AXSON F40 can be demolded in 1 hour, giving you a much faster turnaround time while maintaining strength and accuracy. You get about 6 minutes of working time, but it works slowly, so it goes through a nice gradual hardening process (unlike the instant cure you get with fast molding resins) which makes it very easy to use for brushing molds or counter molds.
AXSON F40 is the resin used by artists from FX throughout Europe for years, so this product already has an excellent track record.
AXSON F40 has a mixing ratio of 100A:20B
RECOMMENDATION: Before use, it is necessary to stir part A (polyol) to obtain a homogeneous color and appearance (SEE VIDEO BELOW). The two parts (polyol and isocyanate) must be mixed at a temperature equal to or above 18°C, according to the mixing ratio indicated in the data sheet. Before proceeding to casting, the parts or molds must be completely dry.
